I’ve always loved motorsport and roller coasters—but like most other ‘big kids’, I don’t have unlimited time or budget to chase both separately. That’s what led me to start combining trips, pairing the very best race events with world-class theme parks in one unforgettable experience. The idea really took shape after two standout double-headers: the Indianapolis 500 alongside Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari in 2025, and the Daytona 500 with Universal’s Islands of Adventure for a ride on ‘Velocicoaster’ in 2024.

Since then, I’ve been on a mission to find the ultimate combinations—where elite motorsport meets incredible coasters, all within easy reach. It’s not always straightforward. You need the right events, the right timing, and the right locations to make it work.

So, I’ve done the hard part for you. Here are nine of the world’s best and most unique motorsport and roller-coaster “double-headers,” designed for maximum thrills with minimum compromise.

1) High-Speed Racing Meets World-Class Thrills - Central Florida

It’s arguable that nowhere else on the planet has the concentration, breadth and quality of theme parks and attractions than the central belt of Florida. When combined with Daytona Beach on the east coast, you end up with a 150 mile stretch of motorsport and roller coaster paradise.

This destination offers something for everyone—sunshine, sand, speed, and some of the best roller coasters on the planet.

For pure immersion, you can’t beat the magic of Walt Disney World and Universal Orlando Resort, where world-class theming meets blockbuster attractions like Velocicoaster and Stardust Racers. If you prefer raw coaster thrills without the side-show, then you need to head to Busch Gardens Tampa Bay or SeaWorld Orlando. Here you’ll find elite rides like Iron Gwazi (Busch Gardens)—regularly ranked among the world’s best—and Mako (SeaWorld Orlando) a true airtime powerhouse, alongside a deep lineup of high-intensity coasters across both parks.

Then there’s the racing. Daytona is NASCAR at its most electrifying: 34-degree banking, 190+ mph speeds, and three-wide pack racing that puts you right on the edge of your seat. Visit for the legendary Daytona 500 in February for cooler conditions, or the August Saturday night race for a high-energy, under-the-lights spectacle.

Great weather, family-friendly attractions, and nonstop thrills—Florida is an unbeatable adrenaline escape.

2) Indianapolis & Santa Claus, Indiana – The Ultimate All-American Thrill Combo

Few experiences match the scale and spectacle of the Indianapolis 500, widely known as “The Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” Held at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, this legendary event draws close to 300,000 fans, transforming the entire city into a buzzing celebration of speed. The pre-race pageantry—marching bands, flyovers, and traditions like “Back Home Again in Indiana”—sets the stage before drivers hit speeds exceeding 230 mph, delivering wheel-to-wheel drama unlike anything else in motorsport.

Just 2.5 hours south lies a completely different, but equally unforgettable thrill: Holiday World & Splashin' Safari in rural Santa Claus, Indiana. This family-owned gem, tucked away in open countryside is famous for its warm hospitality—offering free parking, complimentary sunscreen, and even soft drinks.

But the real reason for visiting if for the park’s three elite wooden coasters, headlined by The Voyage, often ranked among the best in the world. Stretching over 6,400 feet, it’s one of the longest wooden coasters ever built, with fans calling it “relentless” and “an endurance ride in the best way possible.” Access to Splashin’ Safari is included in the ticket, and adds world-record-breaking attractions including Mammoth, the world’s longest ‘water coaster’. Together, Indy and Holiday World deliver pure Americana—high-speed thrills, heartfelt charm, and unforgettable summer memories.

3) Cedar Point and NHRA Drag Racing - The Ultimate Assault on the Senses

If you’re chasing pure, unfiltered adrenaline, few places hit harder than the combination of Cedar Point and Summit Motorsports Park in Ohio. This is not a gentle getaway—it’s a full-throttle, senses-overloaded experience from start to finish.

Starting at the drag strip, NHRA events here are utterly visceral: 11,000-horsepower machines launching from 0 to over 330 mph in seconds, shaking the ground and rattling your chest as the sound hits like a shockwave. The stands don’t just watch—they vibrate. Stay into the evening and it gets even wilder, with flames blasting from the cars under the lights, capped off by spectacular fireworks that round out a day of raw mechanical fury.

Then, just 40 minutes away, you’ll find Cedar Point—known as “America’s Roller Coast”—a park that has held more world records than any other in history. This is the definition of roller coaster paradise. Top Thrill 2 (the evolution of Top Thrill Dragster) rockets you to 120 mph and sends you backwards up a towering 420ft vertical spike. Add in legends like Millennium Force (first coaster to top 300ft), the relentless Steel Vengeance—often called the best coaster in the world—and new-generation thrills like the ‘tilt-coaster’ Siren’s Curse, and you’ve got a lineup that never lets up.

If Daytona is about spectacle, this is about intensity—every second louder, faster, and more extreme than the last.

Key dates : NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsport Park are in June each year

4) Goodwood & Thorpe Park, England – The Ultimate Celebration of Variety

For sheer variety, nowhere does it better than the pairing of the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Thorpe Park. This is a motorsport and theme park combo that throws everything at you—past, present, and future—across one unforgettable trip, all within easy reach of London.

The Festival of Speed is unlike anything else on the planet. Across four days in late June and early July, over 200 machines take on the famous hill climb—ranging from Formula 1 and Le Mans prototypes to NASCAR, IndyCar, rallycross beasts, and cutting-edge supercars. It’s not just a show; it’s full-throttle action, with legendary drivers and priceless cars pushed hard in front of you.

Then there’s Thorpe Park, just a stone’s throw from London’s Heathrow Airport and 90 minutes from Goodwood. Leading the charge is Hyperia, the UK’s best coaster, towering at over 230 ft with a breathtaking drop that ranks among the best anywhere in the world. Add Stealth—launching from 0–80 mph in just 1.8 seconds—and classics like Colossus, once the world record holder for most inversions, and you’ve got a brilliantly varied ride lineup.

From historic race cars to cutting-edge coasters, this is variety at its absolute best.

Key dates: Festival of Speed is held in late June or early July, and Goodwood also hosts the Revival historic motorsport festival in September each year

5) Gold Coast, Australia – Sun, Surf, and Full-Throttle Thrills

For a destination that blends beachside relaxation with all-out adrenaline, Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia is hard to beat. Think sun, sea, sand—and some of the most exciting motorsport and coaster action anywhere in the world.

Right in the heart of the action is the Gold Coast 500 for the V8 Supercar Series at Surfers Paradise. These thunderous V8 Supercars tear through tight city streets at incredible speeds, brushing walls and attacking corners with zero margin for error. The circuit is famous for its “kerb hopping,” where drivers aggressively mount the track’s raised kerbs to straighten corners and carry more speed—sending sparks flying and cars bouncing violently as they fight for grip. It’s raw, loud, and completely relentless.

Just a short drive away, the theme parks deliver equally big thrills. Warner Bros. Movie World is home to DC Rivals HyperCoaster, a fan favourite that hurls you through massive airtime hills and high-speed turns—often described as “non-stop ejector airtime” and “like being launched out of your seat again and again.” Nearby, Sea World Gold Coast features Leviathan, a powerful wooden coaster that combines classic rumble with modern intensity.

Add in warm weather, stunning beaches, and family-friendly attractions, and the Gold Coast delivers thrills on every level.

6) Yas Island, Abu Dhabi – All-Out Luxury Meets Record-Breaking Thrills

If you want maximum thrills with minimum hassle, Yas Island located just outside Abu Dhabi is hard to beat. Everything here is built for ease, scale, and spectacle—making it a true theme park and motorsport playground.

At its heart lies the Yas Marina Circuit, host of the Formula 1 season finale. It’s the scene of the dramatic 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, where Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went head-to-head in one of the sport’s most controversial finishes. Under the lights, with cars racing past the marina and through a hotel, it’s a fitting stage for title deciders.

But the real magic is how much is packed into one place. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi leads the charge with Formula Rossa—once the world’s fastest coaster, blasting to 149 mph in seconds. Add Flying Aces’ towering elements, the punchy Turbo Track, and the immersive Mission Ferrari, and it’s relentless from start to finish. Nearby, SeaWorld Abu Dhabi—a multi-billion-dollar attraction—features Manta, a powerful, low-to-the-ground launch coaster that hugs the terrain at speed, together with the world’s largest aquarium.

For families, Warner Bros. World Abu Dhabi and Yas Waterworld add even more variety, all connected and easy to navigate. Hotels across the island offer seamless access, often with free shuttles, and multi-park passes make it simple and cost-efficient to experience everything.

And if you pass through Dubai—just two hours away—you can add unique rides like the indoor Storm Coaster, featuring a vertical launch inside a shopping mall.

Effortless, world-class, and packed with extremes—Yas Island is thrill-seeking made easy.
